Extensions in Oxford
Some people are reluctant to research the possibility of building an extension for several reasons. The perceived difficulties of obtaining planning permission or putting up with a chaotic home during construction are just two. At Abbotts Building Services, we provide a complete extension project management service, what we like to call a ‘soup to nuts’ business. A phrase that means from the initial consultation through to painting the interior walls we’ve plastered; we will be on the job. To ensure that we maintain our high standards and reputation, we never use sub-contractors at any stage. It also helps to plan work more efficiently to minimise the disruption to your home life.
As well as constructing your extension, we can assist with all aspects of building regulations, including all the required drawings and designs. We will also be able to guide you through the planning permission stage, which is of great benefit to our customers.
There are many advantages to extending your house like the extra space, staying in the house and area you love and increasing your home’s value. There are also many reasons for choosing Abbotts Building Services, and not only because we are the best in Oxford and Abingdon.
Loft Conversions in Oxford
Although loft conversions are another major building project that takes time, planning permission isn’t as prevalent an issue as with extensions. The permitted development statute protects the majority of houses, so planning permission isn’t required. If you live in a conservation area, or you have a listed house, the circumstances may differ.
There are four main categories of loft conversion: dormer, roof light, hip-to-gable and mansard. As part of our project management service, we would first visit your property to assess the roof space. To be able to renovate your loft, it needs to have a minimum head height of 2.2m. If the roof space is suitable, we will advise you on the best type of conversion for your budget and needs, before submitting a listed quote. The cost is largely determined by the type of loft conversion you choose. Roof light conversions are the simplest and most cost-effective, while dormer conversions tend to prove the most popular. A hip-to-gable conversion can only be achieved with semi-detached or detached properties, while a full-length mansard gable will prove most expensive.
The main advantage of using a builder like us is we can provide your loft conversion from start to finish. We have an extremely competent team that encompasses all aspects of the building trade. If you want us to decorate your loft after converting it, we can include it in the service. All of the work that we undertake is guaranteed, and we are proud to be long-standing members of the Trust a Trader register.
